![]() NEWSLETTER September, 2007 Our September meeting was held at the home of Norm and Diana Honaker. Beautiful house guys, you did an awesome remodeling job. We appreciate your hospitality. Our sincere sympathy goes out to Judy Meiners and her family in the loss of her Son. You know we are here for you if you need us Judy. Corvette Homecoming-We had about 17 people go including our friends Ray and Tanya. It was hot. We went out to eat on Friday night (imagine us eating!) and had a very nice meal. We talked about everything from corn hole bags to where Larry the Cable Guy thought his wife’s legs looked the best to Etta Mae’s daughter passing gas in the classroom. We believe in sharing this type of information for future reference. We went to the show and boy was it hot! We had munchies (duh) and stayed for as long as any of us wanted to. We went back to the hotel to shower and change clothes (we didn’t want Judy and Don to be ashamed of their Corvette friends) and drove to Adairville to lend our love and support to Judy and her family. When we returned to Bowling Green we joined in the parade which proved to be somewhat of a disaster at the end. All the cars were getting separated so we just decided to abandon the rest of the cars and stopped at the Montana Grill for dinner. (Can you believe it! A restaurant) We stopped at Cracker Barrel (yea, we ate again!) for breakfast before heading home. It was fun being with friends but did I tell you how hot it was???? Birthdays - Thanks for all of you that came over and helped Amy and I celebrate our birthdays.   The weather was just darn near perfect. Tony M. and Danny came early and helped cook the burgers and you guys just don’t know how much I appreciate that. I didn’t hear Tony W. cuss once. Of course I tried to stay on the other end of the yard. We had the privacy fence installed just for Malcolm in case he wore his grass skirt and he didn’t even make it to the party. NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis - Don Meiners did a wonderful job planning this event.
Our seats were great - he even had us facing away from the sun. The rooms were
really nice. He had packets for everyone with our tickets and maps in case we
got separated. And now here is my recollection of the races. Don had already
told us that the noise was unbelievable and folks-that was fact! One or two of
those cars took off while we were driving to the parking lot and about caused
Martha Lynn and I to jump out of the van! We walk in and everyone starts putting
plugs in their ears. We’re all walking around saying HUH!! We get to our seats
and start watching. These race cars, rails and motorcycles would pull up to this
red light looking thing. Then they would take off for a little ways and stop and
back up. I guess they took off too quick or something. Now the cars that had
funny bodies on them would get up to that light-take off-back up-they would lift
the body up and do something then they would get up to that light again.
Well-when they took off for real, the noise even with ear plugs was unreal and
the vibration rattled your whole body. They took off down that road-everyone
stood up and looked to the left turned around and said “WOW” and sat back down.
Then the next 2 cars would get up there and everyone did the same thing. Got up,
looked to the left, WOW, and sat down. Those cars were going down that road in
4.59 seconds - not minutes - seconds!!! We had an officer’s meeting last week and discussed things that we thought might make the club more interesting to you-our members. We came up some ideas but if you have anything that you are interested in and would like for the club to participate in-please let Tony M. or Tony W. know. Here are a few of the things we talked about: Frankfort Cruise In - Meets in the K mart parking lot. Sponsored by the Capital City Classic Car Club. The next one is Sept 22nd. Danville Cruise In-Oct 6th Paris Cruise In-Oct 13th-Walmart parking lot Boonesboro Boogie Nights-Oct 12th, 13th, 14th Drive to Natural Bridge Cruise In at Quaker Steak and Lube in Ohio and meet our friends from Ohio We also thought about creating a committee to talk to prospective members when they visit a meeting to tell them about the club and the things we do. We also thought a brochure about the club would be nice. Danny and Big Smith volunteered to work on the brochure. Danny also suggested that whenever we go to a cruise in or somewhere as a club that we set up a display about the club. The following are scheduled events: Mid America-Sept 21st, 22nd, 23rd Corvette Expo-Sevierville, Tn. Oct 20th. Greg has 10 rooms reserved. He will need to know by the next meeting if you are planning to go. The rooms are $84.00 plus taxes. Oct 6th-Oktoberfest – The price is $15.00 per person and the proceeds benefit the Markey Cancer Center. There will be food, entertainment and beverages. Let Kaye know by the next meeting if you are interested in attending. It is a fun evening and for a good cause.
Oct 27th-Halloween Party sponsored by the Wilson’s. We are
thinking of doing something different this year. We would like to have at our
family farm in Adair County. It’s about 80 miles from Lexington. There are
approximately 65 acres to roam around on-we might be able to go on a hay ride,
there is a pond (you can swim if you like swimming with the turtles), there is
lover’s lane, Fossil Hill, Holt Lot Holler and whatever else you want to make of
it. We can go down around noon and come home early evening or spend the night if
you like. Bring your coolers with whatever you want to drink and a dish to go
with hot dogs. If it is not too dry we will have a weenie roast on a bon fire.
Let us know if you have an interest in doing this.
The Christmas Party has been changed from Dec 8th to Dec 15th.
It will be at Cousins in Harrodsburg same as last year.   The menu will be similar
to last years.   We will play bingo again. Don’t bring Christmas related item this
year and keep the gifts under $15.00.   We will have a silent auction too.  The
cost of the party will be around $15.00 per person.   We had a great time last
year. Also this won’t happen until Sept of 2009, we need to start thinking about the 15th anniversary of the museum. Kaye has already been in contact with some of the people that are planning the celebration. You can get on a waiting list for a hotel room but they won’t let you book one until 364 days out. Kaye will keep us updated whenever she gets additional information. Our very best wishes and prayers will follow you to Iraq, Malcolm.   We pray for your safety and we’ll also remember Dianne and your family while you are away. We need to start thinking of officers for 2008.
There is a change in selecting the Member of the Year this year. You all will be voting for the individual that you think deserves that award instead of the officers deciding. There will be ballots at the October and November meeting and you can also vote via e-mail to Ann Wilson. If you have pictures that you would like posted on the website, e-mail them to Wanda Hunt. Our next meeting will be held at Guaranteed Pest Control on October 4th at 7:00. Everyone seems to enjoy having “Meet and Eat” type meetings. If you would like to host a meeting, let Tony M. know. Also, remember our sponsor, Jeff Sach's Auto Park, for your Corvette needs. |
