June 2007
Our June meeting was held at Jacobson Park.  Dwayne and Big Smith attracted a ’99 Black Convertible on the way.  I don’t know if the driver decided to join us because he liked us or because he was afraid not to but a great big Rebel Welcome to Daniel Gray and his ’99 Black Convertible.  Don suggested that we eat at Harry’s after the meeting and that was a very good choice Don.

The rain didn’t dampen our spirits at the Derby Party.  We had plenty of good food.  Greg cooked the country ham without any mishaps.  I’m not sure what to say about the turkey other than looking at it brought out the worst in some people.  Like Wanda Hunt!  It tasted delicious which proves that looks aren’t everything.  Right Dwayne!!!  Don Meiners was the big winner.  He won so much money that it wouldn’t all fit in his wallet.  After the race, we girls went into Richmond to shop.  You just don’t get any better than that.

Three couples made the trip up the Mountain Parkway to Stanton for their cruise-in.  Of course we stopped at the Golf Course to eat first.  It was a nice drive – not too crowded.  We were the 16th, 17th and 18th car to register.  Got a dash plaque!  They had a live band that we enjoyed.  It was a good trip.

Counting our friends from Ohio and some friends of Donald and Brenda Clark, we had 13 cars that made the trip to Maggie Valley.  The weather was great.  We sat outside at the Tiki bar.  We know it was a Tiki bar because it had a sign that said it was.  The hotel had a pool.  It wasn’t open but I’ll bet it was nice when it was.  They had a street dance in Waynesville.  We missed it the first time and had to go around the block.  They did have 2 consignment shops there and a bakery that had cakes that would melt in your mouth. From breakfast at Granny’s to dinner at O’Malley’s we found that everything in the Maggie Valley area goes better if you eat it on 2 pieces of bread.  John and Judy won a distinguished award and our friend from Ohio won first place in the C-5 category.  Our club got honorable mention for having 13 cars at the show.  After the show, there was a parade across the mountain and then we went on Cherokee to the Casino.  After that trip, I thought I was going to end up with a Honda 2000 because the check engine light came on in the Vette.  It wasn’t pretty.    Judy (our friend from Ohio) and I were the big winners at the slot machines.  We always learn something from every trip we take and this time we learned that we wouldn’t do that trip again.  We had a good time spending the holiday with our Rebel Family.

The Karl Shannon show to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital was awesome.  We had 9 or 10 cars there and a lot of us trophied.  We were glad to see our old friend Dana Banfield there and he too won a trophy.  I think Don Meiner’s brother won the Ladies Choice for his good looking Vette.  It was a great show for a good cause, we got some greatly needed rain and we went out to eat after the show.  Life is good!  Thanks Dwayne for sponsoring.
