Tanglewood, Berry Hill, and Thistleton
|
Note that Louisville Hill Rd hugs the George Berry property
(you can still see the old road today, of course),
before they put the concrete bridge over Lafayette Dr.
Also, I see only two houses in Tanglewood, maybe three.
The Thistleton mansion is still there, across from Juniper Hill Park.

Then and Now

Horse barn and carriage house
on the Thistleton estate, owned
by George C Collins (Collins Lane)
on Louisville Rd, across from
Juniper Hills Park today.

Benson Valley from US421.
Leo and Ramona Slattery
have almost this same view
from their house.

Leestown, Kentucky
Now part of Frankfort. |
Leestown and The Beeches

Note, no house on hill at the distillery,
which I think was built by George Stagg.
'The Beeches', the Blanton house can be seen at lower left.
And Glen Willis can be seen plainly.
Note how denuded Fort Hill is.
Glen Willis mansion can be seen at left
in this shot looking south from
Hemp Factory Hill.
Lock 4 and Dam, with Bellepoint on the right.

Fort Hill and Ky River from the
L & N Railroad Bridge, looking North.
Les Cable's Broadway Junkyard would later be
located on the riverbank in the right of this photo.
Before that, a coal and lumber yard was there.
.
|
In the aerial photo at left, in the lower right,
on the Stagg Distillery grounds,
the huge log cabin clubhouse is not there.
See it better in the photo below.

Hemp Factory, Leestown,Ky

The shot below must be from the street
just north of the entrance to Glen Willis.
Dickie Downey's Triangle Liquors would later
be in an old house just north of the stone
house you see in this photo.

Municipal Airport, Frankfort
Governor Flem Sampson and family
on board this plane.

Temporary Landing Field, Frankfort
I assume this was shot at the same place
and time as the photo at left.
|
Is this where the Capital City Airport is today?
US60 East of Frankfort
Note the the rail line for the
old Inter-Urban train.
Based on the shadows, this
must be looking East.
This house, I'm guessing, is on Washington St at the corner of Main.
Description of this photo at KyVL says
"Saul J. Roberts house (Mrs. Rosa Vertio Jeffrey)."
.
The Frankfort 1908 directory lists:
Rosa Roberts, student, h. 583 Main
and I see no other Roberts at that address.
Another set of Roberts lived at 324 Conway.
